schools at Oregon Health and Sciences University (Medical, Dental, Public Health, Nursing, and Graduate). A number of students have registered their interest in volunteering at ONW as individuals, bringing their health-related skills with them. This may eventually result in our offering more clinics, e.g. dental, diabetes, hypertension, etc.—as well as their participation in our already-established foot-care clinics. Furthermore, discussions with OHSU officials may result in our also being a formal practicum site for its students, as we are with Linfield.

We’ve built connections with yet other organizations that supplement our volunteer base. We’ve become a partner agency with Hands On Portland, the largest volunteer clearinghouse in the metropolitan area. Twice a month, Hands On recruits a cadre of volunteers to help at our Hospitality Center. The Southlake Singles Fellowship of the Southlake Church in West Linn made involvement with us one of its monthly service projects; and though the group dissolved at the end of the summer, several of its members established such a connection with
Meeting a more basic need, Flying Elephants Delicatessen in Lake Oswego has since August partnered with us, provided us with surplus food at the end of each week. Although we still stress that we are not primarily a feeding program, our Saturday night guests are veritably feasted with the deli’s food, as we are regularly given a bounty of sandwiches, salads, breads and desserts to distribute.
Kobos Coffee continues to be a faithful contributor of all our coffee. We are proud to say that, because of Kobos’ generosity, we may be the only homeless program offering coffee that is not only of such high-quality, but is also fair-trade.
