OPERATION
Community
At the core of Operation Nightwatch’s mission is the building and nurturing of relationships. Our Hospitality Center is a place where people from all backgrounds can interact with one another in a safe, welcoming environment.
Today’s technology offers the ability to extend the power of building relationships beyond the mere physical space of the Hospitality Center. The Web (as its name implies) allows us to establish connections with full networks of individuals. Someone from the
other side of the city–for that matter, someone from the other side of the world–can dialogue with someone who frequents our Hospitality Center, share experiences, and establish a relationship even without meeting that person face-to-face. The Web presents the possibility of creating, as it were, a virtual Hospitality Center, limited neither by walls nor to geography itself.
As technology improves, the possibilities of extending this virtual Hospitality Center becomes more and more exciting. For now, we take advantage of the technology we have to offer a couple of avenues to see that the dialogue begins.
The Director’s Blog–”Ponderings”–presents “thoughts about home (and about those who lack one.” The essence of these reflections are to relate the reality of homelessness and
the homeless to the wider social context. Being a blog, it will be opinionated. It invites response and comment.
Our Forum–”On the Nightwatch”–allows new and long-time constituents of Nightwatch, whether guests, volunteers, supporters, or “explorers,” to talk with each other.  What’s the topic? That too is “each other.” Get acquainted. Ask about each other. Learn what’s on one another’s minds. Share ideas, day-to-day events, opinions. Connect.
