ADJUSTMENTS REQUIRED AS NIGHTWATCH SWITCHES TO FISCAL YEAR With Nightwatch blossoming in its activities and programs, the Board of Directors determined that it would better fit changing needs if we organized our finances around a fiscal year (July-June), instead of a calendar year (Jan-Dec). Beginning July 1, that change will take place.
However, that change leads to something of an awkward transition. For instance, we are currently operating under only a six-month transitional budget in order to get us from the end of our last full-year’s budget (which ended Dec. 31), to the beginning of our next full year’s budget on July 1. But switching to a fiscal year also means our major fundraising efforts in order to meet the expenses of a new budget will have to flip from the fall to the spring. In April, therefore, supporters of Nightwatch will receive a new annual fundraising appeal from us. It will feel like it’s been right on the heels of our last appeal (which happened in October), but the switch to a fiscal year is the explanation. Henceforth, our annual appeal will continue
to occur in the spring. (We will ask those who made monthly pledges to us in October for 2010 to consider extending those pledges through June, 2011.) And when we contact you in April, we’ll be introducing a new concept toward supporting Nightwatch that will help to guarantee a reliable stream of income for us throughout the year. Watch for the introduction of “The Lamplighters”! Thanks for your patience through this transition, and thanks always for your continued support.
